Historical centre between luxury development, nightlife and a modern lifestyle

Mitte is best described as Berlin’s historical and administrative centre, with its Museum Island, TV Tower, tourists and nightlife

Mitte - Highlights

It encompasses the Friedrichstraße and Unter den Linden shopping precincts and department stores, as well as luxury developments extending to Gendarmenmarkt and Hausvogteiplatz. Prices per square metre here are amongst the highest in Berlin.

Bustling Scheunenviertel was the centre of Jewish life in the 1920s where new immigrants from Eastern Europe lived and worked. Today, the area between Hackescher Markt and Torstraße is dominated by boutique design shops, bars and restaurants.

The upper part of Mitte, towards Wedding and Moabit, is an established working class area including the Charité, Europe’s largest hospital.

Nearby, close to Potsdamer Platz and the Kulturforum, Tiergarten is an upmarket area with many embassies and new luxury housing.
